Facebook Group: Bushing

Monday, July 13th, 2009
A group for all fans of the comedy values of ‘Bushing’ – The art of pushing someone in a bush with the element of surprise!
For a ‘Bushing’ you need a ‘Busher’ and a ‘Bushee’, you get more points for multiple ‘Bushee’s'! Damn I wish we had photos of that haha!

Art of Successful ‘Bushing’:

1. Surprise is 90% of a successful Bushing, ensure your victim is totally unaware of your plans.

2. Ensure you have enough force to wedge your victim in the bush or knock them off balance (a small discreet run-up is recommended)

3. Do NOT help your victim, instead stand there and laugh, this will ensure your victim feels embarrassed.

4. Attempt to get a snap shot of the bushing or aftermath, sometimes a 3rd party is useful here although ensure they are either impartial or pro the Bushing event!

5. Do not be stupid with this activity, remember that dispite how hilarious this activity is, people can get hurt – avoid brambles, nettles, deep ditches, watercourses and fencing! (you have been warned)

6. Have fun and give up if you have unsuccessfully completed a Bushing – the surprise will have gone and your victim or indeed any witnesses will be warey of your antics…

Corporate Reorganisation

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Well, I thought I would avoid it, I thought I would pass below the wave of Recessional Disturbance; this was not to be… I have Today had to visit our head office after being informed on Friday that there would be a National reorganisation of the Management Structure.

I was issued with a (stupidly named) ‘Organagram‘ What the hell was it? Believe me, it was undecipherable and from closer inspection it appeared that my job position was not present under the new contract! Why do they do this? Why do they send ambiguous emails on a Friday knowing you will worry over the weekend and have no one to query the wheres and wherefores of it with.

Anyway having arrived at the office there was immense apprehension from Everyone accompanied by an extrordinary amount of Speculation – Suddenly there had appeared a number of experts dictating the outcome of the meetings with the new bosses.

I decided to keep my head down and wait.

There were people leaving their One to One meetings with the new Contract Delivery Managers in tears stating they had to apply for their own jobs after many many years doing the same. This did get to me and for the first time, I suddenly realised I had taken my job, my transport, my communication and the security for my Mortgage for granted.

Finally I had my meeting and luckily I was granted the opportunity to sell myself, my skills and my aspirations in order to secure a position actually doing what I was doing all along for the same money and with the same Terms. PHEW!

The crooks of the matter is that I have taken this as a major ‘wakeup call’ and have decided to ensure that I grasp all future opportunities with both hands… It does however apply pressure on my outlook of “we should work to live – NOT live to work”. I think today’s events have caused me to consider equalling out the weighting of these two arguments.

I guess what I would like to say to anyone in a similar situation is… Don’t worry! Whatever will be, will be and you can’t beat yourself up over it when the situation really isn’t anything to do with your decision, bad planning or performance!

I have decided to share the plugins that I use on this site. You can see below and up to date list of all active and inactive plugins I have installed here at Cheeky.Me.Uk – I guess if you have your own site and see something here you would like to use, that I should make it as easy as possible for you to do so… Generous me huh! Can you complain if it’s FREE?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

TwitterA recent blog post about Twitter losing tweets drew a lot of criticism from various people around the ‘net.

Here’s a typical reaction:

whaa whaa whaaa!

It’s a free service.
Stop complaining about a totally free service.

Why exactly is that?

Does Free mean you cannot complain anymore?

In today’s computing world, most online services/applications are free. Put simply, users get what they want, while companies monetise the popularity. Simple relationship. But now, there appears to be a tribe of people bearing arms, bludgeoning anyone who dares to speak out about lousy service quality, bad up time, bad customer support etc. all under the blanket “Its free, what you got to complain about”.

What happens if Google stops showing search results for companies and products they don’t like. It is a free service, no one can complain, but you bet that those companies are going to die pretty soon. Or what happens if Gmail loses all your incoming emails and you learn about it a couple of months later. No big deal if you are a non IT literate Grandma. Pretty big deal if you run a small business using Google Domains. (Which is free by the way)

Or what happens if Google Docs swallows it’s documents ?

Maybe you will say, “Its a free service. Stop complaining”… or maybe not.

If the knee-jerk reaction to criticism and complaints is to shush them under blanket nonsensical rhetoric, then it is not much different from strong armed tactics.

The only recourse an ordinary customer has, paying or non is to complain loud and clear.. When enough people complain, companies do sit up and listen. Without those checks and balances, things break down. Products and companies never improve, because they never get complaints.. Everything is Rosy, and competition dies.
